A VOULUNTEER INCOME TAX ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
The City of Racine, UnitedWay of Racine County, Racine County UW-Extension and
Racine/Kenosha Community Action Agency have formed a team to increase VITA sites
in Racine. VITA stands for volunteer income tax assistance. It is a national program of
the IRS providing free assistance to any of the following targeted populations- low
income, elderly, limited-English proficient and disabled individuals who require
assistance in preparing their tax returns and cannot afford the services of a paid
professional tax preparer. Last year the VITA site at the Tyler-Domer Community
Center was a success. The goal for the 2010 tax season is 500 tax returns! To meet
that goal, more volunteers are needed!
The VITA program is now recruiting volunteers to continue its success in the
upcoming tax season.
